I KNOW what you’re thinking!
What in the world does tabata mean? LOL – it’s ok if you don’t know! By definition, Tabata refers to a high-intensity interval (HIIT) style of training by which you perform an exercise FULL OUT for 20 seconds, followed by a 10 second rest period. Pretty simple right?! Well, kinda. What truly makes a tabata, a “tabata,” is that you repeat that interval 8x! Yes, that’s right. EIGHT times!
When I first wrapped my mind around tabata training, it did NOT appeal to me (because of the 8x repeat factor); but actually, they’re really fun to do especially if you partner up! Hence, the “Tabata Together Thursday’s” highlighted in the Summer Sweat & Shine (Sweat FIT) program.
To give you some light (at the end of the tabata tunnel), each interval is only 30 seconds long! It goes SUPER quick. So instead of thinking about performing “8 rounds” – think, I’m going hard for only FOUR minutes. That’s a lot easier to digest, right?!
The BEST part of a tabata is that you get to HIIT it hard, and move on with your day. They provide you HUGE benefits in a super short amount of time. So these workouts are awesome to save for those crazy days that “all-the-things-happen” but you still want to sweat. Everyone can find 4 minutes of time! Right?!
